All fabrics, as well as sewing thread, used in construction of ARC garments are inherently Flame Resistant (FR)

Manufactured with Oberon proprietary fabrics

Will maintain Flame Resistant properties regardless of repeated laundering

Lightest weight arc flash garments in the industry

Help reduce heat stress

All findings, Velcro®, labels, zippers are inherently flame resistant

Meet or exceed the requirements of NFPA 70E and ASTM F1506

Each protection level is color coded for quick identification

Hoods:

Manufactured with Oberon’s proprietary ARCX™ energy absorbing polycarbonate plastic

Provide superior Visible Light Transmission (VLT)

Specially designed window for each arc level maximizes visible light transmission (VLT)

Scratch resistant coating on the outer surface (for longer product life)

Antifog coating in the inner surface for improved visibility

Meet NFPA 70E, ASTM F2178 and ANSI Z87.1

Options:

Custom embroidery

Corporate logo embroidered

Garment kits

Reflective tapes

LCI Series, Inherently Flame Resistant

Manufactured with Dupont® Protera® LCI Series of arc flash garments are manufactured from Protera, a new inherently flame resistant fabric from Dupont. It was developed as an alternative to FR treated cotton blends but without the laundering issues.

CAT Series FR Treated Cotton

Manufactured with Flame Retardant Treated blend of 88% cotton and 12% nylon
Care must be taken to ensure that these Oberon FR treated cotton garments are not washed with chlorine or oxidizing bleach.

FRT cotton is heavier than Inherently FR fabrics

FRT cotton has limited durability (see chart above)

Requires strict laundering process to protect flame retardant treatment

FRT cotton garments cost less than Inherently FR garments but will have a shorter use life

For cost and performance comparison, see charts above

Garments are sold in sets or as single items Coverall Set includes: Coverall and Faceshield or Hood with Hard Cap. Available from 4 cal/cm2 to 41 cal/cm2
Coat & Bib-Overall Set includes: Coat, Bib-Overall, and Faceshield or Hood wit Hard Cap. Available from 8.5 cal/cm2 to 41 cal/cm2

Oberon Arc Flash PPE Kits

Arc Flash kits are convenient and cost effective way of acquiring your complete arc flash protection. Purchased together, the items in the PPE Kit cost less than when purchased as individual items.

The Arc Flash PPE Kits contain either a Coverall and Hood or a Coat, Bib-Overall & Hood plus the following items: a pair of Rubber Insulating Gloves a pair of Leather Protectors, a Glove Bag, a pair of Safety Glasses, a set of Earplugs and a Kit Bag.

Oberon Fresh Air System

Accessory to any Oberon Arc Flash Hood to provide a flow of external air into the hood to decrease stuffiness and provide comfort. FreshAir system is designed to provide a gentle air flow into the hood. Too much air flow will irritate and dry the eye. The outside ambient air helps to purge the warm humid air from inside the hood. FreshAir system is not a NIOSH-approved respiratory system. It is designed to provide comfort to the user by driving external air into the hood. Any ArcFlash hood should be used with the appropriate respiratory protective system if one has been determined by your hazard assessment to be needed. FreshAir system cannot be fitted or retrofitted to other manufacturers’ hoods.

Oberon FaceFit ArcShield – Polycarbonate Arc Flash Faceshields

Oberon’s FaceFit® ArcShield™ is designed to provide protection from low level energy arc flash hazards. The ArcShield when worn with a sock hood, provides protection for NFPA 70E Hazard Risk Category 2*, up to 12 cal/cm2. The FaceFit ArcShield is injection molded with Oberon’s proprietary ArcX™ polycarbonate energy absorbing plastic. Polycarbonate is the plastic of choice in the safety industry for impact performance. This high-tech material allows for superior visible light transmission (VLT). The ArcShield comes standard with a hard cap with an upper and lower crown, plus side shield extenders. The upper and lower crown protect the forehead and chin. Side extenders give side head coverage including the ears.

Thickness: 0.105″

Oberon DailyWear™ – Inherently Flame Resistant Garments

For DailyWear, laundering is a most critical issue. The garment is economical only if it lasts. Most FR treated cotton dailywear may last through only 25 to 70 washings. Oberon’s DailyWear can last up to 200 washings or more. While inherently flame resistant garments are more expensive, they last longer than FR treated cotton, offsetting the cost difference.

All fibers and components used in the construction of these garments are inherently flame resistant, including buttons, labels, Nomex® threads and Nomex zipper tape.

What does “inherent” mean for DailyWear? It means you can wash it with no concerns of reducing the FR properties of the garment. These FR properties are not a treatment, but are built into the chemistry of the fiber. Hundreds of washings will not reduce the inherent FR properties. Flame retardant treated cotton must be washed carefully to avoid the use of chlorine and oxidizing bleach. This is important if home laundering is part of your PPE program. DailyWear can require 50 or more washings per year.

Arc Flash Undergarments

OSHA 1910.269 states that garments worn by workers shall not increase the severity of burn injury in the event of an arc flash incident. Garments which ignite and continue to burn on the body can increase the severity of burn injury. If the outer layer of FR clothing breaks open in an arc flash incident, cotton underwear worn under that FR layer can ignite and can increase the severity of burn injury.

Prevent this potential clothing ignition hazard by wearing all FR garments. Oberon’s FR undergarments, especially our unisex long-sleeve Tee Shirts and long legged long johns will not ignite if the outer FR layer breaks open, and these FR underwear garments increase the arc rating of the total garment layering system, which reduces the probability of the onset of a second degree burn.
